ANNADANAM SEVA
On every occasion
in one’s life, there is
distribution of food, without food distribution there is no festival, yajna
(fire sacrifice), marriage ceremony, or
anything else in every household,
temple or Ashram.
The first decision taken in our Ashram, since 2005, when it started
was to distribute Sri Krishna
Prasadam as much as possible.
We started in a small way
with encouragement from donors and friends, distributing Prasadam to the
school children passing by everyday in front of our ashram.
Since 2009, we were able to distribute prasadam to more than
10,000 people a month, giving out more
than 500 plates of prasadam a day, for about 20 days a month.
In this way more
than 5,50,000 plates of Sri Krishna
Prasadam has been distributed till
now and the programme is going on in the ashram
regularly.
Sooji halwa, chakkara
pongal, payasam, vegetable pulao and kurma,
Tomato rice, puliyogare, sweets,
Bananas, Mangoes, fried chips, are some of the items being
distributed in the prasadam distribution programme here.
There is no discrimination in giving out prasadam, everyone
who comes to the programme is
welcome.
Apart from Annadanam, we have also distributed free notebooks to school children and school uniforms for a primary school,
upon request of the school authorities.
Food and water are to be offered to anyone who is in need, food is the sustainer
of life, and giving
These things has been our vedic tradition since time
immemorial. Apart from annadanam
, we also distribute 2000 litres of
drinking water everyday.
The giver of food is the giver of life and indeed of
everything else. Therefore, one who is desirous of well being in this world and
beyond, should make special endeavours to
give food .
In the Varaha purana it is said “ one who gives food, gives
all that is worth giving in this world”.
